Mastery Stage
Appropriate for the Proficient level student

Students entering this stage should be able to understand extended speech and lectures, read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems and literature. They should easily understand most TV programs and films when spoken in standard italian.  They can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity taking active part in discussions in familiar contexts.  They can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving advantages and disadvantages of various points.

Students that would most benefit at the ‘Proficient’ level would have already been exposed to, and should be able to utilize the elements of the Italian language that are listed in the Grammatical and Communicative Goals for all levels through the ‘Advanced’ level.

Students should have also been exposed to at least 700-800 guided teaching hours before entering this stage.
